Victor Davis Hanson

After two months of hysterics, street theater, and virtue-signaling moralizing we can finally detect the Democrats’ counter-agenda. It really exists and seems based on ten simple concepts.

One, cherry-pick federal Obama- and Biden-appointed judges to stop all of Trump’s initiatives in the courts. The merits are unimportant. The point is to delay, delay, delay and tie up everything as the absurd rulings go through the lengthy appellate process. The logic is that if it was illegal, but permissible, to allow unaudited gang members and those belonging to terrorist-designated gangs to enter the country, it is now both illegal and impermissible to deport them. Or the new judicial theory of leftist judges is simply the following: the legal remedy for prior illegal activity is illegal; it is a greater transgression to deport someone here illegally than to admit him in the first place illegally.

Two, the once beloved Tesla savior, Elon Musk, now an apostate, should be reduced to criminal status, his businesses ostracized if not vandalized, his person constantly threatened. Democrats said it was a conspiracy to protest on January 6 and jailed initially hundreds and imprisoned hundreds. But it is not a crime to fund, organize, and communicate across state lines to firebomb, terrorize, and obstruct Tesla dealers, Tesla chargers, and Tesla cars.

Anything Musk does—saves NASA, brings home endangered astronauts, provides free Starlink to wartime Ukraine or fire-consumed Los Angeles, ends censorship and government collusion with social media, reinvents the car industry—should be trashed.

His businesses should be boycotted and bankrupted. He should be dehumanized and reduced to nothingness. He is now to be classified as an “alien,” a “foreigner,” and a racist “South African.”

Or in the words of the sage Gov. Tim Walz, Musk is merely “an unelected South African nepo baby.” Note well: everything in that smear is demonstrably false. Musk is an appointee, similar to the national security advisor who also requires no Senate confirmation. He was appointed by an elected president. As DOGE head, he identifies fraud, waste, and abuse and then turns over his findings to agencies and cabinets of the executive branch that can or cannot choose to act on them. He is a U.S. citizen, not a “South African.” He is not a nepo baby. He did not inherit his wealth. He became the world’s richest man by alone revolutionizing the electric car industry, saving NASA with SpaceX, bringing highspeed internet to underserved communities through Starlink, and freeing up social media from government censorship and collusion with X.

Ditto the same Democrat strategy with Donald Trump: Attack his cabinet, ridicule his proposals, smear him endlessly—until eventually he is reduced to the pariah status of Hitler/Mussolini in the public eye. And then he, along with Musk, can once again become a logical target for the armed unhinged.

Three, claim that .001 percent of the population, the self-declared transgendered, must enjoy deference and accommodation accorded to no other group—even if it means destroying 50 years of achievement in women’s sports or allowing biological males to dress with teenage girls. Support drag shows as a unique and popular art form. Brook no dissent. Brand any skeptic a transphobe and cancel him. Transgenderism is the most important civil rights cause in 80 years.

Four, support all illegal aliens and open borders. Stop all deportations. Side with the noble 25 percent of the population on the issue, not the clueless 75 who are bigots anyway. Die on the hill of sanctuary cities. Resist federal immigration officers at every juncture. Protect illegal alien criminals from ICE.

Five, champion the federal bureaucracy. Oppose any and all cuts in government programs. Keeping intact current government expenditures is well worth running a $1.7 trillion annual federal deficit. Increase spending as either the way to ensure more and higher redistributive taxes or to hobble and weaken a toxic United States. If the debt climbs to $50 trillion or 200 percent of GDP, so what. The rich can always pay for it.
